Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzen/China from 10 to 12 September, 2019 and explored future cooperations with the CEEC Jena and the Jena Center for Soft Matter (JCSM) in the fields of polymers, electrochemical energy storage and nanomedicine.

Founded in 2012, SUSTech is quite a young university, but is already among the big players and among the top 10 Chinese universities. Massive investments are being made in the further expansion of the educational institution with an English-language educational profile. At its core, it aims to promote the goal of “Establish a World-Class University, Rooted in China,” to maximize the benefits to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and China as a whole. As a testbed for higher education reform, SUSTech is a pioneer for pilot programs for new and innovative education programs intended to cultivate and nurture innovative talents. Shenzhen is part of the Greater Bay Area and is also referred to as China's Silicon Valley.
